Yup.

The Obama camp knows from long experience that there's no upside for them once the Right successfully drags the media into one of these "they played the racecard"-derp stories. They recoil when this sort of BS slips into the media cycle and they put a lot of effort into avoiding it. During the 2008 election it was a week long distraction when McCain was doing press avails accusing them of having "dealt the race card from the bottom of the deck."

I've never seen the polling go their way once this sort of crap gets going, which is why the Romney folks are piling on and exploiting it for all it's worth. Romney's even now hitting it on the stump.

In any case, Biden needs to be much more careful and stick to his prepared remarks. You can't afford to have the press chasing manufactured-race-outrage catnip for too many news cycles.

I don't recall press outrage from the MSM when Republicans make references to slavery. They do it all of the time. I guess they don't like Democrats using the same language they do. Fuck the MSM and whiny Republicans. Democrats behaving the way MSM and Republicans want them to is how they lose. I'm glad the Obama campaign stuck by Biden and told the Romney campaign to shove it. They are getting a taste of their own medicine and I say it's about damn time. Nothing is going to distract them from telling the truth about the RR ticket. Working the refs isn't going to knock them off their game.

I'm glad they stuck by Biden also, despite my personal feelings about it.

I'm glad too, since it lets Republicans hang Biden's fear-mongering words around the necks of other Democrats. Keep up the gaffes, Joe! We'll turn you from an attack dog into an albatross in no time!

Oh good grief. Sorry but this is manufactured outrage. In context of what he was speaking about, he said nothing wrong.

Republicans are whiney ass babies on this.

Biden's style is to toss in lots of extemporaneous bits as he roughly follows his prepared remarks. IMO, this was a gaffe in the sense that you can't give that kind of ammunition to the Right's racial provocateurs. America has been trained to be extremely receptive to their appeals and consequently it doesn't take whole lot of effort anymore for many folks to be manipulated into feeling resentment and outrage.

I'm torn as to what should have been done once it was clear the opposition had latched on and was going all in to exploit it. I suppose Biden could have said something like he stumbled going off script and mispoke, that the whole thing is being used as a silly distraction from the important issues, and then dived back into critiquing the other side. It's hard to know whether that would have just added fuel to the fake-outrage-fire.

Since Biden went the toughing it out route, I agree, it's good they're standing by him. You can't have the ticket not supporting each other.

There is no albatross like the Ryan Budget. This comment by Biden will be forgotten by tomorrow, the Ryan Budget on the other hand is the gift that keeps on giving for Democrats. We are going to hang it around every Republicans neck. The whining from Republicans in laughable in light of all of the racist bullshit that they have been spewing for the last 3.5 years at the president and pretty much all minorities for the last 40 years.

The Republicans can't stand it when Dem's use the Republicans own tactics against them. I love to hear them cry foul.

And all the slavery, and "second amendment" solutions references said by Republican and Tea Party leaders are off the table, right?
